Recent events related to cryptocurrency mixing are turning into an intriguing courtroom battle. It involves Roman Sterlingov, the founder of Bitcoin Fog, known as Fogcoin, and the prosecutors' proposal of a 30-year prison sentence, which the defense team has strongly opposed.

According to the defense's arguments, Sterlingov was involved in developing protocols related to Fogcoin but did not have actual operational responsibility. More specifically, they claim he never owned or directly operated the Bitcoin Fog servers. They also emphasize that most of the evidence presented during the trial was circumstantial.

What’s interesting is that the defense team did not propose a specific sentencing recommendation. They only clearly stated that the 30-year sentence proposed by the prosecution is unjust.

Looking at the background, Sterlingov was convicted in a U.S. court last March on charges of money laundering related to Fogcoin. The charges alleged that funds linked to illegal drug sales were laundered through mixing services like Fogcoin. The 30-year sentence appears to be a sentencing stage decision following that conviction.

It is a situation worth watching to see how the courtroom battle unfolds.
